WHAT

We are proud to share a series of videos that document powerful stories about traditions, daily life and the legacy of protecting the rainforest.  The storytellers are community members who have lived in the Amazon for generations and have long been stewards of their land. They have much to share and we need to listen.

About the Native Community of Infierno

Since 1996, Rainforest Expeditions and the Community of Infierno have had a successful strategic alliance where Rainforest Expeditions supports in the marketing and management of the Posada Amazonas lodge, which is owned by the community. The results of this relationship have been among the most successful of any joint venture between communities and tourism companies anywhere in the world – creating meaningful profits and full-time employment.  In fact, each year, profits are shared among the households of the community, providing 25% increase to annual incomes, and around 20 full-time jobs are created in the community at the lodge.

Visit Posada Amazonas Lodge

At Posadas, most of the staff at the lodge are members of the local community, and various activities are designed to allow guests to experience what daily life in the Amazon is like.  A visit to the lodge is a unique opportunity to hear these stories first hand.

Posada Amazonas is a 30-room Amazon jungle lodge; its a perfect basecamp to explore the Amazon’s natural wonders. Despite being relatively close to Puerto Maldonado, the lodge offers ample opportunities to see wildlife such as squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, parrots and macaws. The lodge is also home to a family of giant river otters.

Highlights of a experience to this amazon eco lodge are:

  • Ese Eja Day - a half day immersive experience in the local community
  • Ñape Ethnobotanical Center – a traditional community medicinal center that uses various local plants to cure ailments. A local shaman will be your guide!
  • Oxbow Lake - with the chance to see giant river otters, hoatzins and much more.
  • Canopy Tower - Our 30-meter scaffolding canopy tower gives you spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest. You will have good chances of spotting toucans, parrots, macaws or mixed species canopy flocks.
